New Castle Parents,

The New Castle Baseball and Softball Association (NCBSA) will be hosting travel baseball tryouts and evaluations for 2026 travel teams. We will be forming Spring/Fall teams for 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U. Players’ who register and play for NCBSA travel baseball for the 2026 season may not participate in any outside baseball club during the Fall or Spring season of 2026.

8U (DOB: 5/1/17 - 4/30/18)

Our 8U program will again focus in the Spring on training boys or girls to be ready to compete in the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League in the Fall. The program is run by professional trainers with an emphasis on both development of skills and baseball IQ.

We are not holding tryouts for the 8U team. Instead, if your son or daughter is interested in participating in the program, please fill out the form at the link below. We will then hold an information session for interested parents, after which you will be able to register your player for the program.

9U, 10U and 11U.

NCBSA will determine the number of teams in each of the 8U, 9U, 10U and 11U divisions based on the number of players who try out. As always, this is a two-season commitment and players are expected to play in both the Spring and the Fall for the team.

NCBSA Travel Program Philosophy

The NCBSA’s philosophy towards our travel baseball program is to create and provide a competitive team (or teams) for the most skilled and committed children, allowing them the opportunity to play baseball against other competitive travel programs at the appropriate level in the spring and fall. NCBSA will attempt to find and create a travel team at the appropriate skill level, but make no guarantee that all players will make a team.

NCBSA may create as many or as few teams in each age group.  NCBSA reserves the right to modify teams season by season, in order to achieve these goals.

Playing for the travel program each season involves a substantial time commitment for both players and families.

Our Program Summary

NCBSA participates in GHVBL league and will play by their rules and regulations. Please visit their website for more information. www.ghvbl.com

Tryouts and registration occurs in November.

No player is allowed to play for another baseball club while participating in the NCBSA travel program. (with the exception of the current 11U team).

*All players 4th grade and below are required to register AND participate in the rec baseball program*

Players are broken up into divisions based on their birthdays. (THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS)

For the spring 2026 season

8U 5/01/17 - 4/30/18

9U 5/01/16 - 4/30/17

10U 5/01/15 - 4/30/16

11U 5/01/14 - 4/30/15

12U 5/01/13- 04/30/14

8U Travel Training Program: This is a program to get the players ready for 9U travel baseball. There will be NO travel games. Players will have 1 trainer led practice a week and 1 trainer led scrimmage on the weekend against fellow 8U travel training plates. The emphasis is on game play, strategies, baserunning, kid pitch hitting, basic skills, fundamentals and a huge emphasis on the development of the pitcher and catcher positions. The goal is to prep these players for their fall 9U travel baseball season. At the end of the 8U season players will be distributed into evenly skilled teams for their fall 9U season.

9U, 10U 11U, 12U Program: This is a highly competitive program where players are grouped on a team based on their skills level and then play in the coordinating GHVBL division. Teams are coached by no more than 3 parents but are trained at practice by professional trainers. Players are required to attend 1 practice a week (2 for 12U) and will have at least 1 game a week during the season. Players are also encouraged to attend the optional skills clinic which are run by trainers to help the players work on their fundamentals and skills such as hitting, fielding and the catcher and pitcher positions. Practice is the time for all players to learn how to play together, to work on game plays, situations, and designated positions.

Equipment

Players are given uniforms when they register for their 1st season with NCBSA travel. It is their responsibility to replace any part of the uniform moving forward.

Players are required to have their own glove, helmet with a faceguard or chin flap, baseball bat with a USA approval stamp, cleats, and a cup (worn at every game).  A heart guard chest protector is strongly encouraged as well.

Parents

A parent's role on this team is to positively support and encourage their player and teammates. We need all parents to mark their players' availability on team snap, have their player arrive at all practices and games at the appropriate time as listed on team snap and have their player arrive prepared with all the equipment, water and snacks they need. Parents are NOT allowed in the dugout or on the field UNLESS they have been asked by a coach to volunteer.
