NCBSA Philosophy
Spring Recreation Program
The philosophy of the NCBSA towards our Spring Recreation Program is to provide a participatory program in which children with all levels of ability can learn and play baseball and softball safely, with as much fun as possible. Our emphasis is on the teaching and development of fundamentals skills, and not on competition. We expect all players to be accorded equal playing time and to be given the opportunity to try playing different positions in the field, regardless of ability, and we expect our coaches and, in turn, our parents to help provide a safe, joyful and nurturing playing environment for our kids.
Travel Team Programs
The philosophy of the NCBSA towards our Travel Program is to create and provide a competitive team (or teams) for the most skilled and committed children, allowing them the opportunity to play baseball against other competitive travel programs at the appropriate level in the spring, summer and fall seasons. Try-outs for the Travel Program will occur in the late fall and will begin at the 8U * level. NCBSA will attempt to find a Travel team for all children trying out, but makes no guarantee that all players will make a team.
NCBSA may create as many or as few teams in each age group. NCBSA reserves the right to modify teams season by season, in each case in order to achieve these goals. Playing for the Travel Program each season involves a substantial time commitment during the season for games and practices each week, and each registered player and parent are requested to acknowledge and stand by this commitment.
Developmental Team Program
NCBSA Travel Program also recognizes that children develop at different times, and is therefore an inclusive program that will endeavor to provide all children who did not make a team, but want baseball year long and are committed, an opportunity to be part of a developmental program that emphasizes teaching and skills and game play through our professional trainers.
* 8U baseball teams are currently mixed skill level teams that are more participatory in nature, with a focus on teaching and developing fundamental skills.
Annual President's Letter to all members - May 2025
To the Members of the New Castle Baseball and Softball Association:
You are invited to attend the NCBSA annual meeting on Wednesday, June 4 at 7:45 PM in the Bell School, Room 210.
We will elect a new Board of Directors, report on our program for 2025-2026, and answer any questions you may have. If you do not plan to attend the meeting in person, we ask that you vote for our Board members by returning the enclosed proxy by email or mail.
The NCBSA Board meets monthly to oversee all aspects of our program, including field use, schedules, insurance, coaches training, player clinics, equipment, uniforms, our website, sponsorships, special events, registration, budgeting, summer and fall travel teams and coordination with the various travel team programs in which we participate, including the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League.
We had another successful season in 2025, with over 540 players participating in our spring recreational league programs, including 218 boys and girls in our Kindergarten and 1st grade tee-ball divisions.
For the approximately 50 teams that we formed for our spring recreational season, we try to obtain sponsorships of $250 per team to help defray costs. Sponsors’ names are printed on the back of players’ jerseys. If you or your business can help support our programs by sponsoring a team, it would be greatly appreciated. Sponsor forms for 2026 can also be obtained from our website.
Announcements and other information about our baseball and softball programs are regularly posted on the NCBSA website at NCBSA.net and emailed to all members. Additionally, we have introduced a mobile device-based communication system, Teamsnap, that allows us to inform members and teams quickly for important announcements and schedules. Information about Travel Program tryouts will be posted later in the summer. If you are interested in coaching a team, you can complete a coach’s application form from our website or email us at the address below.
Any questions about our programs can be emailed to us at NCBSA Registrar.
Enclosed is a slate of nominees for the NCBSA Board of Directors.
